G324 - Inspiration From Other Media Texts

Before making our music video, we decided to look at some other similar existing music videos to give us inspiration. We looked at 4 different pre-existing music videos to help us. This should enable us to make a video which looks more professional as it will be utilising common components to our benefit.

The first video we looked at is one of Frank Turner's own videos - The Next Storm. We decided to take some of the camera angles from this video, including close ups on the instruments and some of the performance clips. We also like the way in which some of the narrative takes place in a low key lighted room which is juxtaposed with the high key lighting from the performance clips; something which we planned on doing during the flashback aspects of the narrative.

The second video we looked at is Pete Hollens' cover of Some Nights, originally performed by artist Fun. The element we wish to adopt from this video was his simple change in costume between different parts of the narrative, inverting the two colours. This would allow us to keep the costumes simple whilst still being able to effectively highlight the difference between the narrative aspects of the video and the performance shots.

The third music video we have looked at to take inspiration from is another Frank Turner video, this time for his hit single - The Way I Tend To Be. We chose to look at this video to enable us to adopt his iconic visual style for creating our own music video. From this. we are looking at adopting the use of low key lighting and the way in which establishing shots have been integrated within the video. This is so that we are able to reflect his iconography in our own video.

The final music video we have gained inspiration from is One Direction's - Story of My Life. Within this video, the band use polaroid pictures to steer the narrative and make the images within the photographs come to life. This is a very similar idea to the one that we had for our narrative and therefore we were able to use this video to show where our idea came from and how this can be effective.
